Christmas Trees

Grandpa's Farm is growing 5 varieties of Christmas Trees - Balsam Fir, Fraser Fir, Canaan Fir, Korean Fir and Meyer Spruce.

Christmas Trees have been a real learning process with many challenges including significant pressure from deer which eat the buds during the winter. While deer are pretty to see, we would rather they adopt another family in the area. ☺

The second, and just as significant a challenge, has been the droughts in 2015 and 2016. In 2015 we received rain 3 days before our spring planting and then no rain for 5 weeks!!. While the spring of 2017 brought satisfactory rain, coastal and central NH saw a severe drought during the summer and fall. In later 2016 and the spring of 2017 we made a significant investment in an irrigation system running drip irrigation to every tree on the farm. We currently pump around 4,000 gallons of water each day to the blueberries and trees ensuring they get sufficient moisture and thus eliminate any stress. We contracted with Kelso Well out of Canturbury, NH and we were blessed with a well that can provide up to 50 gallons per minute!!!
